All it does is make a horrible clicking sound and goes into standby

This will be the second time I've had a WD drive crash, the first one had Cyclic Redundancy errors and I lost 3/4 of my old data but bought a different Western Digital drive and backed it all up onto that one

Damn it damn it damn it, the current one had everything saved on it including all my music

A couple solutions have come up online including taking out of the casing and hooking it up directly, which didn't work.

I dunno about putting it in the freezer, I need another drive first but there's no way it could stay on long enough to get all my shit off

Hard drives are too much with Christmas coming up :(

Maybe will pick one up after the holidays. Threw the bastard in the freezer and backing up a bunch of documents on my laptop so I can free up space in case I can get it to read for long enough to pull my music, which is the most important thing imo, not to mention 7 years worth of my life.

If the thing will read at all, it will only work for about 30 minutes max, so my computer being so slow, the firewire doesn't help much at all over USB

External hard drives are way too delicate to be considered as portable as most people do... I seriously can't wait for SSDs to be the norm.

Actually I barely ever moved the thing because it's just a standard HDD in an enclosure, especially not recently.

It really bugs me because most will give off some sort of warning or indicator it's failing but no such luck with me

Well that's interesting

I smacked the hell out of it and got another minute but with the SPEED at which my laptop moves, it didn't give me time to pull off a single file.

Looks like the drive is fucked and aside from goodness knows how many pictures and music I can't get anymore, it's not worth the huge cost of recovery
